POLAR OPPOSITES, Are they really opposite?

In our system of dualism one always thinks in polar opposites, such as light/dark, white/black, etc., but the facts are all things that appear to be opposite only differ by degrees of change from one extreme to another, so when does one become the other? At which point on a scale would white become black, or light become dark. Of course, one pole will start to change by degrees, and the point is: who or what decides when it becomes the other? Each one of us would have a different opinion, so opposites are really the same and only differ by degrees
The important factor is: there is more in between the poles than at each extreme. In our figures of speech we would say it is in the GRAY AREA. If most of the important things in life fall into the GRAY AREA, then why do we judge so harshly the way we do, especially when it’s never black or white, or the case for much of what we judge? The answer is: we have determined a system of belief in which we think we are right without complete understanding, or possibly it lies beyond our current knowledge, then becomes an opinion.

After stating the former, we are forced into the situation of being dualistic by having the “necessary” ego that makes distinctions, and gives us the impression of separateness, when in reality we are interconnected. This separation is needed to navigate the physical experience we are living, and creates the great beautiful diversity we see and enjoy. Think on this! Good////////////////////Evil.

The Great Mystery Beyond Description

Deep within the center of our being lies a Bright Shining Star, also called the God-image. It is something that we cannot fully understand, and from this point we create a god-image based upon our human traits and end up with a god in our image, or some kind of personification that is supposed to perform especially for us and fulfill our wants and desires. The usual result is a complete misconception of the Ineffable Essence ( indescribable ), and a feeling of being let down when our prayers are not answered in the way we want.

When one takes a literal approach ( called fundamentalism) to the inspired writings of the various religions, of which much symbolism, allegory, and metaphor are written, problems arise and one then lives in a state of quiet desperation, or has a secret anger at the god they created if things don’t go their way.

In the first place prayers should be in admiration and praise of the Great Mystery, and not for our personal situations, which would already be known by an Omniscient Divine.

So, we are left with the task ( life long ) of finding this Spark of the Divine ( the Self ) within and striving to unite our entire being with it, which is our purpose. As one makes their way to this Source, the Light becomes brighter and will reflect to others. Much of this idea comes from the works and understanding of Dr.Carl Jung, a gifted thinker and prolific writer in his time.

Conditioning and Projections

We live within a reality much like a movie projector, and most of us have no idea of the process of projection, but almost everything we see and think in life is based on this. No two persons ever see the same image of something, even a very common thing such as a table, or any other object. The main reasoning behind this is: our conditioning from childhood to the present creates presuppositions of reality, in which we think our recognition of all things are correct and only viewpoint. These statements are not my view only, but have been known for many years by scientists, philosophers, and psychologists.

Carl Jung borrowed the term from Freud, but changed it’s meaning and defines: “projection as an unconscious, that is unperceived and unintentional, transfer of subjective psychic elements onto an outer object.” An understanding of this process should halt judging others, knowing we have the same elements of judgment ( complexes ) repressed within in our unconscious. Knowledge is power.

Enduring Love

Outer or physical love with it’s projections, conditions, and drama can bring happiness, however it can be very fleeting with it’s ups and downs. Sometimes this endures for a time, but never-the-less, conditional. Inner or soul love between you and the Divine not only brings great enduring joy, but is unconditional and eternal. One can have both the former and the latter, but the “lover and the Beloved (God)” gives one true happiness and impetus for a good life. Love one another with kindness and tolerance.

As I have mentioned in a previous post, and expanded by Maxwell Purrington, the soul has three parts: a passive, or everyday collection of good and bad insertions, an unfolding part, and the Eternal Part ( the Spark of the Divine ). The ” unfolding part ” is being unfolded by two sides: One side by us through study, prayer, contemplation, and striving for truth, and the other side by our “SOURCE”, at exactly the right time–not too early, and not too late. This is something that needs to be experienced, and not just believed because someone said it. Experience is always the best teacher. Love one another by kindness and tolerance.

Sunday Thoughts

The question that I dislike is : “Where do you go to church?” It has no validity in one’s own private understanding and relationship with the Divine. It is one of those “fundamentalist” statements that tries to “pigeonhole” the person. One church doesn’t allow music instruments; another will not allow women to speak; another is against “speaking in tongues”; and another ??????; there is no end to the restrictions. Congregations will get “on” one verse somewhere and make it Dogma. No wonder Denominations are dropping in numbers. Most don’t understand the difference between literal, allegories, parables, and metaphors. The last thing that gets me going is: “the pastor said such and such and he or she must know.” Study to show yourself approved, or put on your thinking cap. Of course, this mainly applies to Christianity. Church is in the heart…..Just a loud thought! Love one another with kindness and tolerance.

Becoming “Whole” and an Activist

The “Self” as termed by C.G. Jung is the very core of our being, also called the ” heart”, which is the most perfect part of our entire being and is eternal. The rest of our being, so to speak, is less than perfect, by conditioning and possibly corrupted and the main purpose in life is striving to bring ourselves into a close relationship with the “Self”, or a uniting with it. This is stated as if the transformation is up to us to achieve, but when the “Self” is awakened through Divine intervention we move into a state of higher consciousness, and from then on our main focus is within to the Divine, and secondarily, to the life of everyday living where we can interact with others, however then we have become “whole” and can help others from the overflow of our heart. It is one thing to be enlightened, but without reaching outward to others we might as well go crawl into a cave and sit. The world is in a mess over a lack of understanding and it is time to “set the captives free, and open the eyes of the blind” as stated in Isaiah 61:1 in the Scriptures. So, let’s move toward “Wholeness” and then be activists. Be part of the solution instead of being passive about the problems that exist. Love one another with kindness and tolerance.

Conditioned to Fit

Conditioning is a term for a process that starts in early childhood. At that time in life we pick up bits of information and patterns according to our family and surroundings thinking it as the way things are supposed to be, and without questioning, follow along to fit in with others within the family. Later on in life we might realize that others live life quite differently, and so start the process of changing what was thought as normal to fit in with society, and be part of what is called the collective. Once again being conditioned to fit in. This is the normal pattern for most people. This is what society expects of one, and any deviation from this is considered to be an outcast, or other undesirable term, which most creative individuals are by choice. Moving away from the collective and truly being one’s self is the only way to be a self thinker, of which are few. As for me, I’ll take the road less traveled, and not be part of the herd being led to slaughter. Just a morning thought. Love one another with kindness and TOLERANCE.

Tension and Release

All great music has the pattern of “tension and release.” This process creates a main theme, and then starts to intensify by adding intervals ( scale music notes ) to reach a state of tension, and then gives a release. This creates interest and complexity in the composition.

Likewise, in our spiritual path there are added obstacles to create a feeling of tension in the form of uneasiness, or abandonment, which causes us to seek and search out the reason for this feeling. Then, we build up a desire once again for that closeness, and oneness with the Divine, and the feeling of “bliss” returns. This is the natural process of transformation. Ascend or Descend

Over the years I have meditated quite often, that is going into a quiet state and letting thoughts flow by without reacting to them. After a time the mind gets into a state of openness and is able to receive extraneous informative thoughts, as many of you already know. This certainly is not a new idea, and it has been known for millennia. The only problem that arises is the loss of control of what approaches the mind, and can have undesirable effects. Now, I take a little time to contemplate for a while on an idea, sort of an incubation period, and then move into a meditative state which usually results in a desirable end. This acts as a safety device, and allows one to increase spirituality and oneness with the “Source of Creation.” Our desire is to ascend not descend. Just some morning thoughts to consider. Love one another with kindness and tolerance.
